San Francisco-based band Dirty Cello will perform at Club Fox in Redwood City on Oct. 14.

The globe-trotting group — which has put on shows in Iceland, China and even a nudist resort in Santa Cruz, to name a few — is known for playing a variety of music genres, including blues, Americana and straight-up rock.

The four-member band is fronted by cellist Rebecca Roudman, a classically-trained symphony player who left the world of classical music for Dirty Cello years ago and has not looked back since.

"We travel all over the place," said Roudman, "and everywhere we go, the idea is to put on a high energy show. We're a rock band, but with a cello instead of a lead guitar."

Along with original songs, the band says that Redwood City residents should expect to rock out to a set list filled with classical covers of such artists as Jimi Hendrix and Charlie Daniels,

Dirty Cello's music has been described as "all over the map: funky, carnival, romantic, sexy, tangled, electric, fiercely rhythmic, and textured, and only occasionally classical."
