Hyland Design Group has announced that it is launching a brand-new pop-up gallery in San Carlos.

Located at 1213 San Carlos Avenue, the pop-up gallery space was developed by Hyland Design Group in an effort to provide a venue for residents to discover the work of local artists and grow the local art scene.

“Retailers in downtown San Carlos and arts organizations in the city are providing more and more ways for local creatives to share their work and connect with the community,” said Natalie Hyland, founder and lead designer of Hyland Design Group. “I’m thrilled to build on this trend and provide another space for our artistic community to grow.”

The first art show, titled Gesture + Geometry, will feature the work of San Carlos-based abstract artist, Maricris Briones Hansen.

For the show, Hansen worked with mixed media and collage, crafting intuitive art pieces that emphasize color as an entryway and touchpoint for visitors.

Hansen’s show will kick-off with an opening reception on Sept. 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will run through December 10. All exhibitions at the pop-up gallery will be rotated every three months.

“I love the creative energy the new space adds to downtown San Carlos, and I’m so excited to share my work there,” said Hansen.

A residential building design company of over 20 years, Hyland Design Group says it has a long history of connecting with homes and residents across San Carlos.

With the creation of its new gallery space, the company hopes to continue building these connections while also instilling a sense of artistic inspiration into the community.

“Home is the most personal place a person can be in. Original art provokes a feeling that brings a spark of inspiration into the home,” said Hyland. “Our aim is to bring local art into local homes. There are so many artists making amazing work right here on the Peninsula, and I want to see (them) thrive.”
