LeVar Burton will be the guest speaker for HIP Housing’s ‘Cheers to 50 Years!’ Anniversary, fundraiser, which will take place next month at Fox Theatre, according to a news release from the organization.
Known for his performances on Roots, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Reading Rainbow, Burton will take part in a conversation with HIP Housing’s Executive Director Kate Comfort Harr on the power of storytelling as a means of solving the affordable housing crisis, the release said.
The fundraiser will also pay tribute to HIP Housing’s founder, Lois Almen Everett; former agency Associate Director, Joelle Perkocha; and long-time agency supporter and Honorary Board Member, Congresswoman Jackie Speier.
Attendees will have the option to hear stories from agency clients and participate and take part in a live auction. HIP Housing hopes to raise $250,000 from the event to fund its affordable housing programs.
HIP Housing has been a premier affordable housing agency in San Mateo County for the last 50 years. The agency is able to help more than 1,400 people every year to find, or remain in, a safe, stable, and affordable home.
