A pair of Redwood City artists have been selected to participate in a national art event at the Grand Canyon on Sept. 15.
Julia Seelos and Mark Monsarrat were among 24 artists selected from across the U.S. to participate in a live "paint out," where each artist can interpret their artistic vision of the Grand Canyon in front of a public audience.
The live "paint out" is part of the annual Grand Canyon Celebration of Art (CoA) event, which takes place from Sept. 1, 2023, through Jan. 15, 2024.
Hosted by The Grand Canyon Conservancy — the official nonprofit partner of the titular landmark — the yearly Celebration of Art event aims to provide a vibrant experience for Grand Canyon National Park visitors and raise funds to support a dedicated art venue at the park.
Following the paint out, the artwork produced from the event will be available to the public for purchase in-person on Sept. 17 and online at shop.grand canyon.org during the week of Sept. 18 (when the web gallery is scheduled to go live).
