East Palo Alto police are investigating a Christmas Eve shooting that injured a Redwood City man who later died of his wounds, police said.

On Friday at 11:33 p.m., officers responded to a Shotspotter activation in the 900 block of Beech Street, which is between Clarke Avenue and Brentwood Court.

Officers found a vehicle that had crashed through a fence and into the front porch of a home. Inside the vehicle was a 22-year-old man, who did not respond to officers and looked like he may be injured.

Police got the man out of the vehicle to give him first aid and noticed he appeared to be suffering from gunshot wounds.

In a news release issued Saturday, police said the man was transported to the hospital where he died of his injuries. On Wednesday morning, police Cmdr. David Carson clarified that the man is on life support.

The man was taken off life support on the weekend of Jan. 1 and has died. East Palo Alto police have identified him as Hector Valencia Jr. of Redwood City.
