The deadline for residents to receive in-person assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is quickly approaching.
San Mateo County residents who experienced losses amidst the disastrous storms late last year have until March 14, 2023, at 5 p.m. to pop into the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at San Mateo County Event Center to get help with disaster assistance applications regarding any storm-related losses that occurred between Dec. 27, 2022, and Jan. 31, 2023.
Residents can apply for grants to pay for housing or home-related repairs, in addition to grants that can help cover other disaster-related needs such as medical and dental expenses, moving and storage expenses, transportation, childcare and more.
Specialists are available on-site at the San Mateo County Event Center to provide assistance with the application process and answer any questions that residents may have. In addition, representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will also attend to offer information about SBA's low-interest disaster loan programs.
While the in-person assistance deadline is March 14, the general deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is March 16, 2023.
Residents visiting the San Mateo Event Center are advised to enter at the west parking entrance. FEMA disaster recovery staff can be found in the Event Center's Cypress Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Outside of visiting the Event Center, San Mateo residents can apply for FEMA assistance by either visiting DisasterAssistance.gov, downloading the FEMA mobile app, or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
