Andrea Brigida Perez “Pop” Nafrada was called to heaven on August 14, 2022. She was born in Yigo, Guam on January 3, 1936 to Jose Diaz Perez and Rosa Taitano Perez.
Andrea was known to family members as “Pop” or Auntie “Pop” – she had wonderful curly hair like Shirley Temple on the good ship, LolliPop. She was a WWII survivor who graduated from Sienna Heights College and then returned to Guam where she began her 40-year career in federal civil service. Early in her career Andrea met her soulmate, Lolito, and the two married and raised 3 children beginning on Guam, then on Clark AFB, P.I. and finally in Sacramento, CA.
Pop was compassionate and generous of self. She cherished her family and often extended her love and nurture beyond her children, to her children’s friends and to her many nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren brought her so much joy. Andrea relished learning of their accomplishments and proudly bragging about them to anyone who would listen. She was also anoutstanding cook, especially of Chamorro and Filipino dishes, and she loved sharing food to bring people together.
Andrea was a woman of deep and abiding faith. After retiring, she joined the Dominican Laity’s Corpus Christi Chapter in Menlo Park. She enjoyed the friendships she made with other members as they explored and strengthened their faith together.
Andrea’s three children survive her: Clarinda “Claire” Whitton of Chesterfield, VA; Kenneth Nafrada and Jenny, his wife, of McMinnville, TN; and Maylene Lynch and Andrew, her husband, of Menlo Park, CA.
