Darold Lee Givens passed away at the age of 81 on December 30, 2022. A kind, generous and loving man, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Trudie Givens; son Rick Givens, daughter Julie Willett (Rob), son Michael Givens (Laura); grandchildren Amanda Macdonald (Peter), Ryan Willett (Allison), Jessica Givens, Sarah Givens and Kara Givens; and sister Leanna Edens (Patrick). Preceded in death by his brother, Paul Givens.
Darold graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City, CA in 1959 and continued his education at College of San Mateo and College of Notre Dame, graduating with a degree in Psychology. He worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office for over 45 years..
Darold enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing golf, traveling and wine tasting. He traveled around the world competing in the World Police and Fire Games where he won several medals in golf. An avid hunter, fisherman and conservationist, he was also a long-time club and board member of the Foster City Rod & Gun Club where he planned and participated in many fishing, hunting and camping trips. He also served as a board member for his local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation. Darold was very active in the California Waterfowl Association and was honored for his commitment to the Wood Duck Program, where he oversaw the building, installation and maintenance of hundreds of nesting boxes on the Sacramento and Delevan refuges and near his duck hunting club in Lambertville, CA. His conservation efforts raised thousands of wood ducks in Northern California.
Darold touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to calwaterfowl.org/donate
