Joan L. Ehler

Joan Mary Ehler (née LaBonté), age 89, passed away August 9, 2022 in San Francisco, CA. She was born in Webster, MA to Dr. John E. LaBonté, Sr. and Bernice LaBonté (née Love), by whom she is predeceased. She had one brother, John E. LaBonté, Jr. who is also deceased. Joan spent her formative years in the town of Webster, and spoke fondly of time with her family at Loveland on Lake Chaubunagungamaug, summers on Cape Cod, and drives to Boston to watch Red Sox games. Joan was passionate about learning, and after attending the College of New Rochelle (undergrad) and Boston College (M.Ed), she pursued a career in Elementary Education. After marrying and raising her three children, she moved from the east coast to San Francisco, CA, a place she loved to visit, making it her home for 30 years until her death. She never took for granted the beauty of the Bay Area and living there brought her enormous joy.
Some of her passions included travel, gourmet dining, musical theater, and a great pair of shoes. A lifelong learner, Joan loved a good debate and an engaging conversation. She greatly enjoyed meeting people and learning about their life experiences, appreciating each person for their unique personality and contribution to this world. A person of faith, Joan was a follower of Jesus Christ. She cherished the time she spent as the Director of the San Mateo Community Bible Study children’s program and as a participant of the leadership group.

Joan is survived by her children Beth Jackson, John Ehler, Jr. (Sharleen), and Susan Gazor (Farid), and her grandchildren, Ellen Jackson, Sophia Gazor, Bennett Gazor and Esmé Ehler. Her family and friends will miss her dearly, but there is peace knowing she is safe and whole with her Heavenly Father.
