Joyce Margaret Gamber, a long-time resident of Redwood City, California, passed away on June 2, 2022.
Born August 8, 1954 in Everett, Washington, Joyce moved to the Philippines with her family in 1963 and graduated from the American/International School in Manila. After graduating she attended Seattle University and ultimately moved to the San Francisco Bay area. An accomplished high-school student athlete – swimming, cheerleading, gymkhana – later in life, Joyce became an avid walker. Always engaging and outgoing, she befriended everyone from coworkers to the person next to her in the grocery line.
Her greatest joy was her daughter, Teresa. She also took great pride in her work as a Legal Secretary for the County of San Mateo for over two decades until her recent retirement. Joyce was a loving and devoted owner of rescued cats (Bweb, Bingo, Bindi, and Baby) and rescued plants (including one named Plato). A skilled knitter, she annually used her talents to benefit Chase-the-Chill, an organization that collected over a thousand hand-knit scarves and hats for those in need in the Redwood City area. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Teresa Rego, son-in-law, Tony Rego and granddaughter, Maggie Sue, of Renton, WA; John and Cheryl Gamber of Philadelphia, PA; Cayo Gamber and Sera Morgan of Takoma Park, MD; James Gamber and Sherry Medina of Tucson, AZ.
A memorial service for Joyce was held at the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul in Lewiston, ME on September 13, 2022.
