Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

San Mateo County must elect Christina Corpus as the new Sheriff to bring transparency, community engagement, and accountability to this role. As San Mateo County Sheriff, Christina Corpus plans to ensure all voices in our diverse County are reflected in the policies, practices, and leadership ranks of the Sheriff’s Office.  To accomplish this, Corpus plans to assemble advisory groups, including the Sheriff’s Office Community Advisory Board (SOCAB) which will be comprised of stakeholders, local leaders, faith based leaders, experts, and advocates from all corners of the County. Corpus understands the benefit of collaboration and connection with our community.

Corpus knows in order to impact key issues plaguing the current Sheriff’s Office, including the use of excessive and sometimes deadly force, the unchecked use of tasers, and a refusal to acknowledge the appropriate response to non-violent mental health crises calls do not involve the dispatch of armed deputies.  She will raise the bar on accountability to the public and implement new policies and priorities to reflect our community’s values, potentially requiring course correction on some current initiatives.

Corpus is committed to increasing training opportunities and resources to ensure more understanding of possible atypical responses to law enforcement by persons with certain disabilities, including persons with autism, and she has openly acknowledged calls for the implementation of a new model for public accountability.  Corpus has pledged not to allow ICE into our jails and to take steps toward building trust with our immigrant communities.

Corpus is ready and willing to have tough discussions, to confront challenges head-on, to consider diverse points of view, to increase expectations on how the Sheriff’s Office interacts with the community, and to increase transparency and accountability to the public.

Corpus will lead change in local policing by listening and responding to community needs, and she has the depth of experience to effectively serve as our next San Mateo County Sheriff.  She has already proven she will be ready on day one of taking office.   She will serve our County with courage, compassion, and integrity. For these reasons and many more, I hope you will join me in supporting Christina Corpus for San Mateo County Sheriff by casting your vote for her on your ballot by June 7th!
