A person was struck and killed by a Caltrain on Monday night, the agency said.

At approximately 8:54 p.m., southbound train number 268 fatally struck an individual when approaching Redwood City station, Caltrain said.

As of 9:50 p.m., emergency personnel were still on the scene and train service was stopped at the area.

There were approximately 166 passengers onboard at the time and 7 bikes, Caltrain said, and all were moved to the platform area. No other injuries were reported.

"No matter what the circumstances, it is always regrettable when a life is lost. Caltrain reminds everyone to be safe around train tracks" Caltrain said in a statement.

The victim was identified Tuesday as Derrick Miley, a 62-year-old man. The coroner's office did not have information about his city of residence.

This is Caltrain's 10th fatality of the year.
