Two people are dead, and one is seriously injured after a two-vehicle collision on State Route 1, just north of Bean Hollow Road.

According to a California Highway Patrol spokesperson, CHP officers from the Redwood City division responded to a car crash call at around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, near Bean Hollow State Beach. Bean Hollow State Beach is just south of Half Moon Bay and within San Mateo County.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a Subaru was traveling north on SR-1 while a 2022 Tesla was traveling south. Authorities believe that one of the vehicles crossed over the double yellow line and collided with the other. According to authorities, the collision made both drivers lose control and careen into the water embankment to the east of SR-1.

Both cars became submerged in the water, with the Tesla fully submerged. The drivers of both cars were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. The passenger of the Subaru was airlifted to Stanford Hospital with major injuries.

It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
