A 13-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday night in Stockton, according to police.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m., Stockton police received reports of a collision involving a bicyclist and a vehicle at the intersection of Center and Acacia streets.
At the scene, officers found a young girl suffering from significant injuries. Medics pronounced the girl dead at the scene and her name has not been released. Investigators said the cause of the collision has not been determined.
The man driving the vehicle remained at the scene, police said. No other details about the case were immediately available.
More than 7,000 people were killed, in 2019 and 2020 combined, in crashes throughout California, with pedestrians and bicyclists accounting for more than 2,000 of those deaths, according to the California Highway Patrol.
