NEWS RELEASE
UPWARD SCHOLARS BAY AREA
*************************
Lupita—Upward Scholars students of 3 years—shares her favorite traditional dish from her native city of León, Guanajuato, Mexico. “Every time l think about Guacamayas, I'm reminded of my childhood. My family always prepared Guacamayas when we were all together. We would laugh and play games or soccer, and my grandfather would tell stories. We always enjoyed Guacamayas together, as a family.”
While she’s still undecided about her major, Lupita is interested in psychology and social work. No matter what she pursues, she is passionate about helping people—like herself and like our students—get the support and resources they need to succeed in the U.S.
Click here for the step-by-step recipe.
Lupita—like countless students—found Upward Scholars to be the family she never thought she’d have in the United States. In their time of greatest need, when food, shelter, and even medical care were uncertain, our students leaned on us for support. It is your generosity in 2020 through the Upward Scholars 2020 Student Safety Net Fund that changed the lives of hundreds of family members negatively impacted by COVID-19.
But our work is far from over. Our students still need their Upward Scholars family, and that means they still need YOU!
This giving season, I invite you to give as generously as you can to our second annual Student Safety Net Fund. Together, we can help our students and their families stay fed, housed, and cared for so they can remain enrolled in community college and make strides toward their academic and career goals.
From Lupita’s family to yours and as one Upward Scholars family, I hope you enjoy this recipe—a small token of our appreciation.
