Good afternoon, Redwood City!

Still too close to call

The race for Redwood City’s District 2 council seat has us all on our toes. Not only has Chris Sturken pulled ahead of opponent Margaret Becker (who led on election night), but his margin is starting to widen. His two-vote lead from a couple of days ago has grown to a 29-vote lead, with another update coming at 4:30 p.m. today.

It’s hard to say how many votes are left to count in their district, but countywide an estimated 93% of the ballots cast have been processed.

As Mayor Giselle Hale tweeted yesterday: “For the rest of the nation election day was last Tuesday. For candidates and people watching races in California it’s every weekday afternoon at 4:30pm until ???”

Tech layoffs

It's been an incredibly difficult week for a lot of workers at some of our biggest tech companies. Hearing report after report of companies letting go of thousands of employees has been like watch a train wreck—or a bubble burst.

Have any of you, your family members, friends or neighbors, been affected by the mass layoffs? We'd love to hear from you and how you're coping.

’Tis the season

I can hardly believe it’s that time of year again… The ghosts are out and the icicles are in.

More to come… for now, happy Friday!

Leah
