The unincorporated neighborhood of Palomar Park held an evacuation drill on the morning of Saturday, June 1 in coordination with several local safety agencies to test the area’s emergency readiness.

Along with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, the San Mateo County Department of
Emergency Management, the County Fire Department and CAL Fire, the neighborhood held a drill at around 9 am that included a siren alerting those in the area to evacuate.
The drill was voluntary, and according to Bob Bedbury of the Paloma Park Association, the California Highway Patrol assisted in ensuring the alerts were sent out.
“This is the first time that it has been done here in 16-17 years,” Bedbury said.
Local police also patrolled the area to ensure the drill went smoothly. The drill also tested the SMC alert system which is available in all cities, districts and towns in San Mateo County.
Palomar Park covers an area of about 300 households near San Carlos.
