Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Hello Redwood City,

Nope, it's not just you. There's a nip in the air and I feel it too. Anyway, on to the day's news.

Over the last few weeks my inbox has been inundated with media advisories and announcements about virtual town halls, online council meetings and remotely accessible press conferences. These are symptoms of what I like to call the 'pandemic hangover'. It's a good thing, of course. Social distancing mandates got us all to put certain practices in place and now, though the worst hour of the global health crisis is behind us, we continue to follow them. "Zoom" has become shorthand for all manner of virtual meetings and that's a welcome change.

On the flip side, some changes made during 2020-22 have had unfavorable consequences, many of which are coming on our individual and collective radars only now. Our top story today is about one such case.

During the pandemic, parking spots outside Sequoia Hospital’s emergency room that were designated for those with disabilities were converted into a drive-through for COVID-19 testing. Today, the testing center is gone as are the special parking spots.

We spoke to a mother who discovered this the hard way. We also spoke with the hospital authorities about it.

Ashwini Gangal, filling in for Michelle.
