Good morning, Redwood City!
Woodside High School recently became the center of an investigation after what appeared to be a swastika was discovered on campus. The principal informed the community that the swastikas, although alarming, represented nothing more than "a spiritual symbol from Japanese Buddhism known as Manji popularized by anime," she said. The symbol was later painted over. The Sequoia Union High School District Superintendent Crystal Leach didn't return requests for comment, nor did most members of the Board of Trustees as of Friday night. Read our story here.
And later, we will have a full recap of the Día de los Muertos celebration, which took place last night in Courthouse Square. It seemed as if thousands showed up. Catrinas and Catrins — a prominent icon of Mexican culture, adorned with flowers and skeletal makeup. Many were honoring our forebears There was pan de dulce and many ofrendas. More on that later.
Our photo of the day was captured by our very own Visual Journalist for Special Projects and Audience Engagement Assistant Editor, Magali Gauthier.
