The Redwood City Elks Lodge No. 1991 recently hosted a Hawaiian-themed charity event, raising over $45,000 to support children with disabilities through the California-Hawaii Elks Major Project, Inc.

The project funds 32 paid therapists and preschool vision screeners to help children with disabilities receive essential care. Children also receive screenings to detect early signs of amblyopia, or lazy eye, a condition that may lead to blindness if not treated early.

The event, held on Jan. 25, welcomed 200 guests who enjoyed a buffet, silent auction and a lively dance floor. According to the organization’s press release, a team of 26 volunteers contributed more than 900 hours to make the night a success.

The release also stated that the event showcased the power of community support in making a meaningful impact on children’s lives.
