Local residents who died recently include:

Ariel Burchard, 73, a Palo Alto resident who was a “rockhound extraordinaire” and a member of many rock societies including PGGS, CFMS, AFMS and his love for rocks led him to meet his wife, Brenda; both of whom their love of pretty rocks, shiny silversmithing and travel as they married in 2001. Buchard died on November 11, 2024.

Patricia Michele “Trish” Mulvey, 82, a Palo Alto environmental activist and former AT&T manager who devoted her retirement to protecting San Francisco Bay and local watersheds, and whose love of nature and needlepoint earned her statewide recognition, died on June 23, 2025.

Le Levy, 90, a longtime Palo Alto resident, former mayor, and avid cyclist who once rode 80 miles to mark his 80th birthday, and who served on the boards of Congregation Beth Am, Rotary, and the Magical Bridge Foundation, died on June 10, 2025.

Charles Pius “Chuck” Bonini, 91, a Stanford professor and decision sciences scholar known for Bonini’s paradox, a love of roses, and nearly five decades of teaching at the Graduate School of Business, died on June 6, 2025.

Luise Sortino Maier, 97, a former teacher and top-producing real estate agent who loved gardening, cooking, and her Sicilian roots, and who once met her future husband on a Navy ship on Christmas Eve, died on June 28, 2025.
