A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual battery after an attack on the San Francisco Bay Trail in Redwood City earlier this week, police said Thursday.

The incident was reported at 3:53 p.m. Tuesday on the trail near Uccelli Boulevard, according to Redwood City police. The victim told officers she was running on the trail when a male suspect approached her, asked for the time and whether she was running alone, police said.

The suspect then allegedly grabbed the woman and fled the area. The victim described him as wearing an orange sweater, police said.

Officers used a drone to search the area and later located a man matching the description, whom the victim identified as the suspect, according to police.

The man was booked into county jail on suspicion of sexual battery and remained in custody as of Thursday on $10,000 bail, according to jail booking records.

Police credited the use of a drone with helping locate the suspect.

“Much of the trail in Redwood City runs between Highway 101 and the marsh area, making access by vehicle limited,” police said in a news release. “The use of the drone significantly enhanced officers’ ability to locate and identify the suspect in this case.”
