A 26-year-old Redwood City man was arrested Monday for allegedly assaulting a woman and deliberately crashing the vehicle they were in, according to police.

At about 5:44 p.m., multiple calls came in reporting a vehicle collision in the 500 block of Winslow Street.

Officers arrived and discovered a vehicle with major front-end damage and its airbags deployed. A female passenger was outside of the vehicle and its driver had walked away from the scene, police said.

Investigators believe that the driver assaulted the woman while driving recklessly, then intentionally crashed the vehicle into a center divide.

The woman was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office were in the area and spotted the man. He was arrested without incident.

The man was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of reckless driving, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic violence. He is being held without bail.
