Good morning, Redwood City!
Swastikas or Anime on campus?
The Sequoia Union High School District is responding to criticism it received over how it handled the swastika drawings found at Woodside High last week. The principal told parents that they were spiritual symbols from Japanese Buddhism known as Manji, popularized by anime. But that didn’t sit well with a lot of people, who thought the district might have missed an opportunity to denounce hate speech. The district told us it has several programs to train and support youth advocates on conflict mediation, empathy and respect, and violence prevention. Stay tuned for this story.
