A cooking instructor at the Maple Street Correctional Facility was arrested after being caught smuggling drugs into the Redwood City jail last Tuesday.

Corrections officers at the Redwood City jail caught the 41-year-old South San Francisco woman allegedly bringing in the drugs, according to a statement given by Lt. William Fogarty of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

In his statement, Fogarty said that the Maple Street Correctional Facility hired the woman to teach incarcerated individuals various cooking techniques to help them become more employable upon their release.

The woman is accused of bringing a controlled substance into a correctional facility, possessing for sale a controlled substance, and the transportation of a controlled substance for sale.

It’s unclear how she smuggled the contraband inside or what type of drug she brought into the jail, according to the sheriff’s office. The crime is still under investigation.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
