A car fire on U.S. Highway 101 Wednesday morning caused the shutdown of two lanes in the northbound direction as Redwood City firefighters sought to prevent the flames from spreading into nearby vegetation.
The fire was reported at about 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 25, prompting a full-assignment response, according to the fire dispatch app PulsePoint.
"A lady was driving northbound on 101 when her car malfunctioned north of Marsh Road. She tried to pull over and went into a ditch and her car was on fire," said Redwood City Fire Battalion Chief Geoffrey Balton.
The fire began to spread to the grass and vegetation around the car, but it didn't get far before firefighters knocked the fire down, which took about 20 minutes, he said.
The right two lanes of traffic were blocked while firefighters attended to the blaze. Smoke also drifted across the southbound lanes.
Balton said no one was injured. A fire inspector was talking to the driver to try to determine the cause of the blaze.
