A 21-year-old Redwood City resident has been charged with murder after investigators allege he stabbed his mother to death in Shasta County Tuesday, according to the county sheriff’s department.

Jacob Jesse Mandujano was arrested on Tuesday after the 21-year-old called 911 to report that he had allegedly stabbed someone. When Shasta County deputy sheriffs arrived at a Redding home just after 8 p.m, they found a 51-year-old dead woman inside the home, who investigators later identified as Elizabeth Barron-Alcazar. Upon further investigation, detectives learned the victim was Mandujano’s mother, who lived at the residence, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies detained Mandujano and interviewed him at the Major Crimes Unit. Mandujano was identified as the only suspect in the homicide as he allegedly admitted stabbing his mom, according to investigators.

Mandujano was charged with murder and booked into the Shasta County Jail. His bail is set at $1 million.

Mandujano’s arraignment is scheduled for Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Shasta County Superior Court. Barron-Alcazar’s autopsy has been scheduled.

Anyone who has any information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 530-245-6135 or by email, MCU@co.shasta.ca.us.
