Update as of Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at 2:37 p.m.: The Redwood City School District has canceled classes for Thursday due to the anticipated weather conditions.
"In monitoring the weather today, looking at the forecast for this evening into tomorrow, and learning additional details from San Mateo County emergency leaders, we have decided that we would be serving our students and families best by encouraging them to stay home and avoiding getting on the roads, if possible," RCSD Superintendent John Baker said in a message to students' families and to all school district employees.
The district plans to reopen on Friday, weather permitting, he added.

The Redwood City School District is not canceling classes at any of its 12 schools for its students ahead of a major storm on Wednesday. The district plans to stay open throughout the week, officials said.
The announcement by District Superintendent John Baker was made in a message to all students' families and to all school district employees.
"RCSD plans to have school at all campuses after closely and carefully assessing our facilities and the surrounding grounds after this weekend’s rainfall," Baker said in the message. "While it is unfortunate that several areas throughout San Mateo County experienced floods and damage, the impact for RCSD campuses was minor. District staff monitored the storm throughout the weekend and visited each school to assess the impact and current conditions."
A flood watch and high wind watch will be in effect beginning Wednesday at 4 a.m. and will continue until Thursday. Redwood City will see heavy rainfall beginning Wednesday morning and into the evening.
Baker said the district would continue to monitor the weather and let families and district employees know should there be a change of plans.
San Mateo County on Tuesday activated its emergency operations center and declared a state of emergency.
Supervisor Warren Slocum said the local declaration would allow the county to qualify for additional state money and personnel to support the storm effort.
