'Difficult decision' as Bay Cities FC suspends operations for rest of soccer season

'Financial constraints' triggered the move, says soccer association

Bay Cities FC, the Redwood City-based soccer team, has suspended operations for the rest of the year due to "financial constraints," according to the National Independent Soccer Association.

The club is now focused on finding a new primary team owner.

“We are definitely disappointed that Bay Cities FC needed to make this decision,” said NISA Commissioner John Prutch. “This is difficult for everyone across the NISA landscape.”

Bay Cities FC last week canceled its weekend match versus Cal United Strikers. Representatives at Bay Cities FC did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

NISA has revised its 2022 schedule and table with the eight remaining clubs.

The competition committee has revised the table to reflect the following:

  • The league is now condensed into a single table
  • The standings have been revised using an average-points per game total (points earned divided by matches played)
  • The results of all Bay Cities FC matches have been left intact
