The Port of Redwood City is launching a pilot program this month to provide ferry service to Oracle Park for San Francisco Giants baseball games.

The pilot, which will begin on July 28 and will give the city and port more information before its permanent routes and port open, is expected to be completed by 2026.

Kristine Zortman, executive director at the Port of Redwood City, said the plans for the permanent ferry port, including a conceptual design, are under environmental review.

“The Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) asked if we would see how interested the community is and get them excited about the future ferries and maybe offer a couple of Sunday ferry trips to Giants games,” she added.

Zortman also said this program had been done with Vallejo’s terminal before and was met with “huge success.”

The Redwood City Ballpark Service Pilot will offer five round-trip rides on select game days, each trip lasting about an hour.

“Whether you’re taking in the views of the bay, enjoying an evening in the city or heading to the ballpark, the ferry provides convenience and ease of travel, so you can enjoy all that the city has to offer,” the Port’s July newsletter touted.

The prices will be $18.75 for adults and $14 for youth, disabled and seniors.

The port recently received a major boost in funding, seeing up to $48 million approved by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
