Election Day is here! Today is a special day. One where we all have the pleasure of performing our civic duty. Let’s not waste that.

Forty-two percent of registered voters in our county have submitted their ballots, either by vote-by-mail ballots or at vote centers, as of 5 p.m. Monday. That’s 180,426 vote-by-mail ballots and 9,511 ballots at vote centers, respectively.

You still have time to vote, even if you haven’t registered. Just head to any voting center. Unregistered voters or voters who need to re-register will fill out a paper voter registration or electronic voter registration form. Next, voters will be given a ballot, which will be placed in a special conditional voter registration envelope. Read more here.

Polls close at 8 p.m. The first results for this year’s election from San Mateo County will begin rolling in at 8:10 p.m. on election night.

The Pulse will have live election results on our homepage and will continue updating the results throughout the night.

PG&E is warning some customers that they will shut off power to approximately 22,000 customers starting Tuesday evening in at least 17 counties due to strong winds and elevated fire concerns. San Mateo County is NOT one of the counties listed for the shutoff. We’ll keep you updated if that changes.
