Good morning, Redwood City!

The Redwood City School District Board of Trustees voted on Wednesday to release or reassign displaced staff to new roles following a presentation by Superintendent John Baker and Wendy Kelly, deputy superintendent of human resources & recruitment. Baker and the trustees discussed the district’s budget and the staffing challenges, including the importance of meeting state education code requirements and the need for community involvement and fundraising to supplement the district’s budget, including a proposed parcel tax for November.

The district is up against two deadlines: a March 15 deadline that requires the district to notify all staff affected by the layoffs and a March 20 deadline that requires the district to submit a proposal to the state’s Office of Education addressing that the district is fiscally solvent.

Kelly said the district was working with displaced staff to reassign them to new positions within the district. Yet, some commenters in the audience contradicted her statements, stating that they had not been given proper notice.
