A rainy night like this is made for a hot home-cooked meal and a good read. And if you’re looking for a new recipe or book to dig into over the holidays, you’ve come to the right newsletter.
Redwood City psychologist Ellen Kirschman has worked as a modeling school teacher, a probation officer, a police psychologist and now an author. A little over a decade ago, she began writing the Dot Meyerhoff mystery series about a sleuthing police psychologist. Ellen just released her fifth book in the series, “Call Me Carmela,” in which Dot seeks to help a young woman find her birth parents after she discovers that she’s adopted.
Los Altos resident Karen Nelson’s debut novel “The Sunken Town” also explores the theme of adoption, as the main character Lindsay, a Palo Alto jewelry designer and private art collection manager, learns that her birth mother has died and left her a farmhouse on the other side of the country. Secrets unravel as the story is told from Lindsay and her mother’s perspectives. Read about these Peninsula authors and the real life experiences that have inspired their writing before you pick up their books.
And Peninsula chefs share their favorite recipes to make over the holidays. From a snackable salted pecan-toffee crunch to a tandoori roast turkey recipe, spice up your holiday meal plan with recipes from chefs behind Protégé, Impasto and more local eateries.
