- tinyB chocolate, which specializes in brigadeiro, is opening its first brick and mortar in San Mateo on Feb. 1.
- Voyager Craft Coffee will open on Stanford Universityβs campus next month, according to The Stanford Daily.


Vegetable samosas at Khao Kang

When I ordered takeout from Khao Kang the other night, I was craving green papaya salad but decided at the last minute to impulse order the vegetable samosas ($14.50 for four pieces). And Iβm so glad I did.
Iβve never had samosas quite like these. The exterior tasted of flaky and buttery puff pastry, almost empanada adjacent, quite a stark contrast from the heavily breaded, fried samosas from most Indian restaurants or the spring roll-like samosas from other Thai places. The interior was bursting with curry flavor and the dipping sauce was sweet, tangy, acidic and bright, with chunks of fresh, crunchy cucumber, perfectly balancing out the buttery, rich notes of the samosa as well as adding texture.
As a side note, the dishes at Khao Kang run spicy. At most restaurants, Iβll order dishes at a hot spice level (which is less hot than βThai hotβ), but here I definitely should have ordered medium spicy. I had to eat the mango sticky rice (which was excellent) alongside my green papaya salad to cool down my mouth.
