Mary Helen Shea passed away peacefully at home on April 7, 2023. She was 89 years old and lived in Redwood City, CA.
Mary was born in Long Island, New York in December of 1933. Her father Leonard, and mother Florence Farnung ran a hardware business in Long Beach, Long Island. They had a big home, sailboat and loved to travel. She had 2 brothers Leonard and Frank. During the depression they sold the business and moved to Miami Beach, Florida.
Leaving Florida in 1937, her family purchased and ran a hotel. They also ran another hotel on Sunset Lake. After high school Mary went to John Hopkins, graduated with a nursing degree. She married Daniel Shea in 1957 in Washington DC where her first two children were born. In 1961, they moved to Redwood City, California and bought a home. There they had another two children. As the children got older, Mary returned to her nursing profession at Sequoia Hospital. Dan and Mary loved to travel, particularly Ireland and Northern Europe.
For more than a decade, they volunteered at Ano Nuevo Park. She was predeceased by her husband Dan. She is survived by her 4 children, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many loving friends
