Local residents who died recently include:
Daniel Hachigian, 64, a longtime resident of Woodside, California, who was a devoted father of four, a respected computer scientist with a decades-long career at Hewlett-Packard, Silicon Graphics and Juniper Networks, and an avid hiker known for his daily climbs in the local foothills, built a life rooted in curiosity, generosity and family. He died on Jan. 26.
Carl Stanford Treichel, 60, a Palo Alto native who was a gifted sailor and self-taught musician, who taught sailing in Tiburon and Sausalito and spent a formative year crewing aboard a 98-foot ketch in the South Pacific where he wrote dozens of original songs, lived much of his adult life with schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease, facing both with quiet strength. He died at home on Nov. 14, 2025.
Sara Tolles White, 88, a longtime resident of Portola Valley, California, who was a former State Department employee, World Affairs Council program coordinator, and deeply engaged community volunteer, and who was known for her intellectual curiosity, love of travel, gardening, and the outdoors, shared 58 years of marriage with her husband while building a life centered on learning, service, and family. She died at home on Feb. 1.
