Redwood City residents now have a new space to gather outside the Downtown Public Library on Middlefield Road, according to a news release from the Redwood City Improvement Association (RCIA).

The gathering space outside the library includes chairs, umbrellas and tables and is the pilot for the RCIA Placemaking Initiative, a program to create public spaces that benefit the community’s happiness and wellbeing, according to the release.

“One of the goals of the RCIA is the beautification of downtown, and this new community gathering space outside the library serves as an area for friends and family to come together,” said Amy Buckmaster, executive director of the RCIA in a statement.“The library being in the heart of downtown makes it the perfect place to kick off this program..”

Buckmaster credits Redwood City Library Director Derek Wolfgram as “a great partner during this roll-out.”
