A 32-year-old Redwood City man has been arrested by police after allegedly robbing the Whole Foods Market on Tuesday.
Officers responded to the store at 1250 Jefferson Ave. on Oct. 3 after receiving an emergency call that a man, who claimed to be armed, had robbed a cashier, the Redwood City Police Department said in a press release on Wednesday.
The man allegedly entered the store and approached the cashier, demanding the employee hand over money from the cash register while posturing and insinuating that he was armed with a gun, police said. The cashier complied, and the man fled the store, police said.
A customer followed the man to an apartment on Vera Avenue and called the police. One of the man's family members also called the police at the same time and said he had returned home with a large amount of money, police said.
Officers and detectives surrounded the residence and worked to de-escalate the situation, according to police. The man was eventually safely taken into custody and was booked into the San Mateo County jail on suspicion of robbery and an outstanding arrest warrant.
The Redwood City Police Department requests that anyone with additional information regarding this investigation contact Detective Kyle Trinh at 650-780-7620 or 426@redwoodcity.org.
