The Redwood City Fire Department is set to begin their Community Emergency Response Team Academy in the coming months.
The program will consist of several classes over the course of September and October, teaching community members basic disaster responses in the event that a professional response to a disaster is delayed.
These classes will teach fire safety, search and rescue techniques, team organization and basic medical training. Two required classes, Disaster Psychology and Terrorism, must be taken online.
The first class will be held on Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Red Morton Community Center. Each class will be held weekly with a final “Skills Day” on Oct. 14 at the Armory from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Participants that complete all classes and the Skills Day will receive a CERT certificate of completion and become a member of the Community Emergency Response Team.
Anyone interested in registering for the program should visit www.redwoodcity.org/parks or email Lee Bach at lbach@redwoodcity.org.
