On Monday, over 1,000 Kaiser Permanente employees celebrated the Redwood City Medical Center’s 10th anniversary.
As a queue of employees wrapped around the medical building in the early afternoon. Kool & the Gang’s “Celebration” pulsated through the air. The health care professionals enjoyed specialty coffees, a catered lunch and chair massages.
Guest speakers included state Sen. Josh Becker, former U.S. Rep. and current supervisor-elect Jackie Speier, Supervisor-elect Lisa Gauthier and former Redwood City Mayor Jeff Gee.

Speier was presented with a special plaque for her support of Kaiser Permanente during COVID-19 and beyond. The plaque will be placed on a wall in the hospital in her honor.
“For the past decade, our Redwood City hospital has provided exceptional care and medical services to the residents of southern San Mateo County,” Shasta Addessi, Kaiser Permanente senior vice president and area manager of the San Mateo County service area, said in remarks emailed to this news organization. She noted that the staff has cared for more than 100,000 patients, and nearly 20,000 babies have been born at the facility.
Since opening in 2014, the Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center has grown into a large 15-acre medical campus that provides primary and specialty care to members and patients.
“I’ve seen the campus grow, evolve and change,” Gee said in the same release. “But the most important thing is that it’s not about the campus. This is a place where people come to get better.”
