An East Palo Alto man was arrested in the early morning hours of Friday after police said they found multiple firearms, including an AR-15-style rifle with a loaded magazine and other weapons in his vehicle during a traffic stop in San Mateo, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
Police said the 25-year-old driver failed to stop at a stop sign near S. Norfolk Street and Shoreview Avenue in San Mateo. When they searched him, they discovered he had a loaded .40-caliber pistol in his pants pocket, which they later determined to have been stolen out of Utah, according to police.
Upon a probable cause search, officers said they located an unserialized, privately manufactured AR-15-style rifle with a loaded magazine and a chambered .223-caliber cartridge in the trunk. Police also said they found a loaded, 65-round large-capacity drum magazine inside a backpack.
The EPA man was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail. Charges include carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, carrying a concealed firearm on his person and illegal possession of an assault weapon.
