Catch concerts and film screenings March 6 and 7 as harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani comes to Stanford Live and guitarist/singer Chandran Sankaran performs at Feldman’s Books in Menlo Park. Plus tech author Kara Swisher comes to Kepler’s Books, and though the in-person event have sold out, you can still attend a virtual talk with Swisher.
Mahan Esfahani
Its distinctive sound may conjure up visions of lords and ladies in towering powdered wigs, but the harpsichord still has a place on the modern stage. Musician Mahan Esfahani specializes in the rare instrument, and has been featured in appearances with major symphonies on four continents, according to his website. In 2008, Esfahani was the first and only harpsichordist to be recognized as a BBC New Generation Artist, a program that nurtures up-and-coming talents. For his performance at Stanford Live, Esfahani’s program includes compositions from the 16th and 17th centuries, including works by J.S. Bach and Scarlatti’s Eight Sonatas.
March 6, 7:30 p.m. at Bing Concert Hall, Stanford, tickets start at $32. live.stanford.edu
Kara Swisher
In her new memoir “Burn Book: A Tech Love Story,” longtime journalist Kara Swisher (previous books include “aol.com: How Steve Case Beat Bill Gates, Nailed the Netheads and Made Millions in the War for the Web” and “There Must Be a Pony in Here Somewhere: The AOL Time Warner Debacle and the Quest for a Digital Future”) spills the tea on her many years of covering Silicon Valley and the tech world. Swisher will be hosted by Kepler’s for what the bookshop is billing as “a don’t-miss rundown on the who, how, what, why, and what now of tech power, in Silicon Valley and beyond.” In-person tickets were sold out at press time but, as befitting a talk on tech, virtual admission to the event via Zoom is still available.
March 6, 7 p.m., Kepler’s Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, $15 for virtual admission, keplers.org/upcoming-events-internal/kara-swisher.
Chandran Sankaran
Guitarist/singer Chandran Sankaran returns to Feldman’s Books for another performance of “Living Life through a Dozen Songs,” featuring pop and rock songs spanning the past seven decades — some familiar and some lesser known — and an exploration of the feelings and memories that go with them. “It’s part music concert, part reflection and conversation that will hopefully leave you savoring songs in new ways,” Feldman’s website says. Singer Nitya Rajeshuni will open the show.
March 7, 6 p.m., Feldman’s Books, 1075 Curtis St., Menlo Park, free,.feldmansbooks.net/events.
