Cellist, composer and multilingual vocalist Ian Maksin has sung songs in 37 languages and writes his own original music in at least four, inspired by traditional music from around the world. His background in classical music, plus his passion for world travel, linguistics, and genres including rock, blues and jazz, has led him to develop his own unique style, with cello at the forefront.

At his performance in Mountain View, the U.S.S.R.-born Maksin, who moved to the U.S. at age 16 to study in New York, will perform music from his releases “Amor Renatus”, “Alchemist” and “Sempre,” along with other favorite songs from his repertoire.

His Peninsula concert is the penultimate stop on his “Cello for Peace” tour, which concludes Dec. 28 in Marin County.

Dec. 26, 7:30 p.m., Samovar, 1077 Independence Ave., Mountain View; $28.52-$39; eventbrite.com.
