Two Redwood City artists are among more than 340 from across the San Francisco Bay Area, who will open their studios and galleries to the public during Silicon Valley Open Studios 2025, which runs the first three weekends in May.
Now in its 39th year, SVOS is a free, self-guided art event that invites the public into artists’ workspaces to explore their paintings, sculptures, photography, jewelry and woodworking. The event is organized by Silicon Valley Visual Arts, a nonprofit that promotes and supports the visual arts in the region.
Two Redwood City artists are among those featured this year. One, known as Gadget, is a former tech worker turned artist who works with metal hardware and layered wood.
“I frequently work in strange mediums, often incorporating found and reclaimed objects into my art in unconventional ways,” he said in a press release.
Charles S. Boris, also from Redwood City, creates benches and tables from driftwood and salvaged lumber collected during his hikes along the Northern California coast.
This year’s event focuses on community engagement and will feature artists from a different region each weekend in May. The first weekend, May 3–4, will feature artists from the Coastside and Northern Peninsula.
The second weekend, May 10–11, will focus on the mid-Peninsula, and the final weekend, May 17–18, will showcase artists from the South Bay. Studios will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
While each weekend spotlights a specific region, some artists may participate across multiple weekends.
Ahead of the main event in May, SVOS is hosting three preview exhibitions this month: at the Los Altos Library through April 28, the Burlingame Public Library through April 28, and the Sobrato Gallery in Mountain View through April 27.
