The 14th year of Shakespeare in the Park begins in Redwood City’s Red Morton Park on Saturday, Aug. 9, with performances of the romantic comedy “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.” The show is free and will run Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 24.
San Francisco Shakespeare Festival is bringing the play to Redwood City for three weekends and the show will begin at 6 p.m. The play, modified from William Shakespeare’s original, follows two young men as they journey from a small, traditional Midwestern town to the alluring promise of California. The two friends venture westward and confront their inner conflicts as they are seduced by the possibilities of love, success and reinvention.

Festival Executive Director Toby Leavitt emphasized in a press release that “providing access to high-quality cultural experiences, free of charge, and eliminating barriers to participation is a core part of our mission. We’re proud to offer professional theatre to our community in such an accessible way.”
The play is suitable for all ages and runs 90 minutes with no intermission.

Ely Sonny Orquiza is directing the show. The play stars Tyler Aguallo as Valentine, Anthony Doan as Lucetta/Thurio, Michelle Navarrete as the Duke of Milan/Antonio/Eglamour/Outlaw 3, Emily Newsome as Silvia/Outlaw 2, Joel Ochoa as Lance/Speed, and more.
The event is sponsored by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Redwood City Parks & Arts Foundation.
