Redwood City is all set for a month filled with holiday festivities, offering residents and visitors a chance to enjoy time-honored traditions, lively performances, and a sense of community spirit.
Downtown Redwood City is aglow with holiday spirit, featuring festive banners, sparkling lights and garlands that will remain on display through New Year’s Day.

The Redwood City Improvement Association, which has sponsored the holiday lights, is also co-sponsoring the tree-lighting ceremony with the city. The cherished tradition will take place on Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. According to an RCIA spokesperson, it will be followed by a performance by the Merrie Olde Christmas Carolers, the world’s oldest and largest professional caroling group.

The carolers will dress in Dickensian attire and stroll downtown on Dec. 7, 11, 17, and 19 to perform arrangements of holiday classics.
The San Mateo County History Museum will host a performance by the Fort Point Garrison Brass Band, bringing 19th-century holiday music to life. The group, known for its authentic recreations of Civil War-era tunes, will perform on brass instruments over a century old. The performance is meant to offer a way to experience the holidays while connecting with local history. The band will perform on Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. on 2200 Broadway. Admission is Free.
On Saturday, Dec. 7, the city’s 18th Annual Hometown Holidays Celebration will take over Broadway. It will feature local vendors, live entertainment, and free photos with Santa.
The celebration’s highlight is the Hometown Holidays Parade Extravaganza at 4:30 p.m. A SamTrans Holiday Bus will also join the parade participants. SamTrans staff will hand out Santa hats to folks along the parade route.

The city will observe its annual holiday music and light show at Red Morton Park from Dec. 15 to Jan. 1. The 20-30 minute show will take place at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., except on New Year’s Eve, when it will take place at 8:30 and 11:30 p.m. The show is organized by Dancers in the Park in collaboration with Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services.
On Dec. 7 and 8, Caltrain’s Holiday Train will ride from San Francisco to the Peninsula and South Bay as part of its annual toy drive. The train, decorated with more than 70,000, will be at each stop for about 20 minutes, during which people can sing with the carolers and take pictures with Santa.
Information about more events can be found on the city’s website.
