Redwood City has named Amanda Anthony as its new economic development manager, City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz announced Tuesday.

Anthony, with a background in program leadership and economic development, will focus on enhancing the city’s economic growth and resilience.
Anthony currently sits on the board of the South San Francisco Unified School District after winning the November 2022 election. She was selected to serve as the 2023-2024 board vice president.
According to her school district bio, Anthony served as a performance management consultant for the Chicago Public Schools, where she analyzed data to enhance the effectiveness of programs from 2008 to 2011.
Her prior experience includes serving as San Mateo County program director at Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center and roles in Poland, including work for Hewlett Packard.
Anthony, who holds a Master of Public Policy from the University of Chicago, has been recognized for her work in entrepreneurship and regional development.
Anthony will permanently replace Simon Vuong, who was Redwood City’s previous economic development manager and left the city on Aug. 11, 2023. Patrick Heisinger stepped in as interim assistant city manager last August to fill Vuong’s shoes. According to Jennifer Yamaguma, deputy city manager Heisinger has been overseeing economic development while the economic development manager position has been vacant, with the part-time support of Terrence Grindall.
Anthony’s annual salary is $175,000, according to Yamaguma.
Anthony begins her role in Redwood City on March 11.
