Two teenagers were arrested over the weekend in Redwood City on suspicion of brandishing a weapon while trying to steal alcohol from a grocery store, according to police.

Just before 1 p.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to a Safeway store at the Sequoia Station shopping center on El Camino Real on a report of an armed robbery. Safeway employees told police that a man brandished a handgun while stealing alcohol.

Officers viewed surveillance footage of the suspects and fanned out around the location. Eventually, they found two people matching the descriptions in a parking garage on Marshall Street.

Arrested were two Redwood City teens, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old.

Police allegedly found a lighter shaped like a handgun on the 18-year-old, who was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of robbery and conspiracy.

The juvenile was taken to the Youth Services Center and booked on the same suspicions.
