A 46-year-old man was ordered to stand trial earlier this week on a murder charge for a fatal shooting in East Palo Alto in 2022, San Mateo County prosecutors said.
John Caisiano Thompson is accused of killing Breanna Labat, a 32-year-old woman who was renting a room in his home on Daphne Way in East Palo Alto, on Dec. 2, 2022, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Labat’s body has still not been found. Prosecutors allege Caisiano Thompson, who was out of custody on a pending illegal possession of a firearm case, shot her during an argument and stray gunfire also injured another person in the home. He then allegedly enlisted someone else to assist with disposing of Labat’s body.
Caisiano Thompson’s preliminary hearing ended Monday with San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Jonathan Karesh ordering him to stand trial on the murder count and other charges. The case will return to court on Oct. 22 for formal arraignment on the charges, prosecutors said.
His defense attorney Emily Andrews was not immediately available to comment on the case.
