The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office reported there were four home burglaries in Portola Valley, Woodside and Ladera in late October and November.

In Ladera, a burglary took place on Oct. 25 around 9 p.m. near the 200 block of Mimosa Way. In Portola Valley, deputies responded to a burglary reported in a home on Holden Court on Nov. 8 around 7 p.m. The suspects of both burglaries fled the homes with numerous items before deputies arrived, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

In Woodside, someone stole items from a home on the 500 block of Manzanita Way on Nov. 1 around 6:30 p.m.

On Nov. 15, another Woodside home was burglarized on the 700 block of West California Way between 2-6:30 a.m. The Sheriff’s Office said while there was evidence of forced entry into the home, nothing was stolen.

Investigations on all burglaries are ongoing, according to the Sheriff’s Office. To prevent your own home from being targeted by burglars, law enforcement officials provide the following tips:

  • Always lock doors and windows when leaving to deter burglars from entering.
  • Don’t give hideouts. Trim bushes and trees near windows to eliminate potential hiding spots for burglars. Ensure your home is well-lit.
  • Hold your mail and deliveries or ask a neighbor to pick them up when you’re out of town. Don’t advertise your absence or post your plans on social media.
  • Double check locks. Make it a habit to lock all doors and windows before leaving, even if it’s just for a short time. If you have a security system, be sure to utilize it.
  • Strengthen entry points. Consider upgrading to solid doors with deadbolt locks to add an extra layer of security.
  • Dispose of packaging discreetly. After big purchases, break down boxes and packaging to avoid showcasing valuable items to potential burglars.
  • Consider placing valuable items in a locked safe. Keep the combination to yourself.
  • Report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

If you have information on the reported burglaries, the Sheriff’s Office asks you to call 650-363-4911. Anonymous tips can be made by calling 800-547-2700.
